Joyce Yang captivates audiences with her virtuosity, lyricism, and interpretive sensitivity, and showcases her colorful musical personality in solo recitals and collaborations with the world’s top orchestras and chamber musicians. Yang came to international attention in 2005 as the youngest contestant at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, winning the silver medal and sweeping additional awards for Best Performance of Chamber Music and Best Performance of a New Work. Born in 1986 in Seoul, Korea, she received her first piano lesson from her aunt at age four and, in 1997, she moved to the United States to begin studies at the pre-college division of The Juilliard School. She made her Philadelphia Orchestra debut at twelve years old and has also performed with the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Milwaukee, San Francisco, and Sydney symphony orchestras, and the BBC Philharmonic, among others.
